The Most Glorious Work Possible
Great leaders don’t primarily concern themselves with what can go wrong. Instead, they work on what best propels the mission. Our greatest, most glorious work comes when we are working toward the greatest possibilities for the world and seeking the highest potential for others.
Our greatest opportunities in life are so much bigger — so much more glorious — than trying to stay out of trouble.
Too many of us live in fear, trying not to mess up. We protect what we think is our job to protect. At times we try so hard to not mess up that we miss out on the most abundant opportunities we are being offered in our life and work.
No great company leader spends all of their time on compliance, regulations, and legalities. Great leaders don’t primarily concern themselves with what can go wrong. Instead, they work on what best propels the mission.
Our greatest, most glorious work comes when we are working toward the greatest possibilities for the world and seeking the highest potential for others.
Challenging the status quo — for the benefit of others — has led to some of the greatest solutions of our time: Freedom, equal rights, clean water, air travel, overnight delivery, and your favorite fast food right to your door in minutes.
Your favorite music, media, and the ability to talk to your friends from your watch all come from reaching higher and seeking what is best.
This is not just how to do our greatest work; this is how we are designed to live our best life.
A New Creation
When Jesus calls you to follow Him, He calls you to walk away from a legalistic mindset and the performance trap to a new life (2 Corinthians 5:17), doing the work He does and becoming more like Him.
This new life impacts every part of your life and work. Your new life as an heir of the King (Romans 8:17) is to put all things underneath the Lordship of Christ, building the kingdom as you love others and give glory to our blessed / happy God.
We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers — and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine that conforms to the gospel concerning the glory of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me. - 1 Timothy 1:8-11
It’s not that we become law breakers, by no means! But, instead we have a new life focused on being all God made us to be in Christ Jesus.
It’s now our job to think like heirs and owners and to stop our focus on rule keeping.
Our God is Happy
Our God is the blessed God who does everything that pleases Him. This includes assisting all His people in achieving the greatest glory possible. God is pleased with His children (Psalm 149:4). He made us for His glory.
Good business owners and CEOs focus on the mission of the organization. Their job is to create the most thriving environment possible to accomplish the most good possible.
God is so much more than the world's leading Chief Executive. He is the Creator and Master of everything that exists! Everything — including us — exists for His happiness and pleasure. He is the blessed God.
God is “the happy God” and is beyond pleased with you - watch this video from John Piper at Desiring God to better understand what makes our great God happy.

God is Pleased with You
Jesus tells His followers He loves us every bit as much as His Father loves Him. This is mind blowing! As followers of Jesus — we are loved as much as our perfect God loves his perfect Son.
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.” - John 15:9
This truth is meant to be as inspiring as it is affirming.
Seek Greater Things
The perfect love and acceptance of Jesus inspires us to live like Jesus. And that is exactly what Jesus tells his followers to do next.
“If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commands and remain in his love.” — John 15:10
His commands are not onerous, and they are not nearly as much about compliance and staying out of trouble as they are about building a new kingdom and being with Jesus.
Note the kingdom-building nature of these commands and the focus on loving like Jesus loved in order to draw people to Him.

The Greatest Glory
Jesus tells us these things so that we do the very same work He did and have the greatest joy working with Him.
“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” - John 15:11
Do great work where God has placed you. Use the gifts you have been given to glorify your creator with your work.
- Wonder the possibilities of making the world a better place
- Invent new innovative solutions that improve the lives of others
- Discern what works and ensure it is aligned with the mission of your organization and the will of God
- Galvanize others to great work too
- Enable the people you serve with exactly what they need to do their best
- Tenaciously finish each project worth doing
You see, you are much more than a rule follower. You are a child of God, made to glorify your Creator and act like your brother, Jesus.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others so they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father who is in heaven." - Matthew 5:16
